Continuing Education Units in the form of Professional Development Graduate Elective Credit through Brandman University

General Information

Would you like to earn Professional Development Graduate Elective
Credit credits based on your attendance at a
Career Choices Workshop
or Lead Teacher Institute?

Would you like to earn Professional Development Graduate Elective Credits online, on your own schedule, at your own pace, and in your own location?

Academic Innovations has partnered with Brandman University in Orange, California to offer interested educators the opportunity to earn from 1 to 3 units as they prepare for their Career Choices courses and Freshman Transition programs.

Currently we offer nine courses: Four courses are completed in combination with a one-, two-, or three-day workshop with follow-up online and practicum work; five courses are delivered entirely online and can be completed at your own pace.  For a complete review of all nine course options, click here.

When you review the list of the 9 courses, you’ll note that they have been carefully constructed to appeal to different categories of learners.

For details about registration, practicum assignments, fees etc., review the links found at the bottom of the left navigation bar.

The PDU program provides structure, recognition, and rewards to instructors, administrators, and support staff who want to maximize the effectiveness and results of their Freshman Transition programs for 8th and 9th graders.

If you need assistance determining which course is best for you or you have questions about this program, contact our Curriculum and Technical Support department at (800) 967-8016.

The work that led to the Career Choices Teachers’ Lounge, the training videos, and www.my10yearplan.com® began in early 2006 following the publication of an article in the National Association of Secondary School Principals’ Principal Leadership magazine. The article, “A Personalized Plan for Life,” by Dr. Rebecca Dedmond, director of the Freshman Transition Initiative at The George Washington University, outlined the components required to launch freshmen into a self-sufficient life through the development of a 10-year plan in either the 8th or 9th grade. One of the key components of a successful effort was a Lead Teacher, whose function was to build a strong instructional team for a Freshman Transition course meeting the Course Standards for Freshman Transition Classes. In addition, the article outlined a School-wide Initiative for the updating of the 10-year plan throughout high school.

As with any major redesign effort, quality professional development is mandatory.  To that end, Academic Innovations conducts workshops and institutes across the country on various topics related to Freshman Transition courses and dropout prevention programs. For details, see www.aiworkshops.com.

In addition, over the last two years we’ve developed nearly 40 training videos, so this information can be available to all instructors and administrators on their own schedule, at their own pace, and in their own location.  Depending on the course, different videos are assigned.  For a complete list of the training videos, click here.
